A visit to an owl cafe is one of the ‘must do’ in my daughters list. After some googling, she decided on Akiba Owl Cafe and we made reservations and paid days before our trip.
It was raining on our appointed day/time so it was good timing that it was an indoor activity on a rainy day.
If you like birds, owls in particular, this will be like heaven for you. Main thing is to be quiet, no sudden moves and it is best to use the back of your hand when touching the owls. Oh, and no flash photography.
Btw, the owls here have breaktimes and daysoff, haha
After some time looking at, taking photos of the owls, you’ll be allowed to choose ‘an owl companion’. Depending on your choice, you might need to wear gloves. My daughter chose a small one so she didn’t have to wear gloves.
She chose a seemingly friendly, good natured owl. I had the misfortune to choose what seems to be shy with a dont-look-at-me attitude. I didn’t think it would be so because I was able to take this one without much effort.
But after choosing it and having it perched on my gloved hand…
After my owl was returned to his/her perch, I had to wait long and took several photos before being able to take these two…
The others seemed lucky like my daughter…

Oh.., in choosing your owl, you also need to remember that bigger the owl the bigger the poop, haha
It was a nice, enjoyable experience. The only thing I would change if I were to go again aside from the choice of owl (haha) would be to ask for the instagram account of the others in the group 🙂
